Plymouth Argyle picked up four points from a possible six after a double fixture week in the EFL Championship saw the Vertu Motors-backed side go up against two rivals also bidding to remain in the division.

The weekend kicked off with a trip to Rotherham United for the first game following the departure of head coach Ian Foster, with Neil Dewsnip once more taking over the reigns until the end of the season.

Rotherham had to win to avoid being consigned to League One next season but with both sides low on confidence, the game started in a scrappy manner – although it was Argyle who created the better chances.

The break-through came just after the half hour as Bali Mumba ended a scoreless run going back five months when he was played in by Morgan Whittaker and beat ‘keeper Viktor Johansson.

Rotherham never looked like getting back in the game from that point on, and victory for Argyle put some breathing space between the Pilgrims and the teams below – with Rotherham confirmed in the first relegation slot.

Argyle then welcomed QPR to Home Park, with the visitors hitting the front when Sam Field was able to beat Michael Cooper following a scramble in the goalmouth.

Plymouth had failed to score in five successive home games but finally got back on the scoresheet when Albert Adomah put through his own goal with just five minutes left to play, leading to the points being shared.

A surprise win for Millwall over Leicester saw them move ahead of Argyle, with Plymouth sitting 20th in the table and two points clear of the bottom three ahead of a home game with the Foxes on Friday.
