Plymouth Stun Title Hopefuls For Vital Home Win

Plymouth Argyle stunned title hopefuls Leicester City to secure a vital three points in the quest to retain their position in the EFL Championship for another season.

Argyle welcomed the league leaders to Home Park knowing seeking to avoid a damaging defeat towards the bottom of the table, but with confidence having been boosted by a win against Rotherham and a draw against QPR in the previous two games.

There was little surprise when the visitors had more of the ball in the early stages, with Patson Daka having a goal chalked off for offside before Michael Cooper produced a smart stop to deny Ricardo Pereira.

When a Leicester attack broke down on 20 minutes however, Argyle took advantage of a lucky bounce on their edge of their own box to charge upfield, with a fine ball releasing Mustapha Bundu down the left hand side.

As Leicester defenders backed off, Bundu was able to cut inside before side-footing his shot beyond Mads Hermansen into the far corner to give the home side the lead.

Having fallen behind, Leicester continued to dominate the game in terms of both possession and chances, but Argyle would stand firm to grab a vital victory in the battle against the drop.

With Millwall and Blackburn Rovers also picking up three points, Argyle sit 18th in the table but are now four points clear of the bottom three with just three games left to play.

Next up is a trip to Stoke to face the side led by former boss Steven Schumacher.
